THE MAILBOX GAME

Super cheap.  Super easy.  You can play this game immediately no extra materials needed.  Bonus – you can get some fresh air and exercise in while you play!

We invented this game a few years ago while out for a walk.  The kids would run from mailbox to mailbox as fast as they could.  They would run to the next mailbox and when I caught up (at my walking pace), I would say “GO” and they’d bolt to the next one.  Stop, wait for me, and “GO” again.  They have to stay on the side of the road and not touch the mailboxes.  As simple as this game is – they really like it.

Just the other day, we added some variations to this game and we even switch it up as we walk.  For one street we may pick one ‘task’ and then switch on the next street.  Or for ‘5‘ mailboxes then switch or keep the same task for the whole walk (or until interest fades).

And you know what? – you don’t have to have your kids to do this either, you can do this while walking all by yourself.

A few ideas and I’m sure you’ll come up with your own while you walk or run or skip or hop to the next mailbox.

  • Run as fast as you can.
  • Come up with a compliment about someone else for each mailbox. (Can be the same person or different each one.)
  • List a reason you love you someone or something.
  • Come up with a compliment/talent/something you are good at about YOURSELF.
  • Answer a math question.
  • Spell a spelling word.
  • Name one of the fifty states, no repeats.
  • List places you’d like to travel.
  • Name green foods.

The possibilities are huge! The compliments are my favorite.  Share what other ideas you have to play this new, fun game: The Mailbox Game.
